Whatsapp Introduces One-Way Broadcast Feature

Whatsapp announces the upping of their game with the introduction of a 'one-way broadcast' feature for groups. This feature which seems to have been borrowed from Telegram has been released to users world-wide with the latest version of the app on both Android and iPhone devices. Telegram has achieved popularity by setting up a platform which allows people to sign up to get alerts from admins of news agencies, companies, schools and more, a feature that Whatapp is excited to adopt.

Whatsapp informed users in their blog on Friday that "Today, we're launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group. One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centers, and non-profit organizations." In order to make use of this feature, Whatsapp users will need to open 'Group Info' within settings and select "Only Admins". This new feature will therefore allow a general relaying of information to a group of people which in turn, allows users of the app to  achieve a more efficient means of communication.

What's more, group admins now have the option to come up with a short blurb of their group which can be found under group information and will contain purpose, guidelines and the topic of the group. In addition, when someone joins a new group, the description will show at the top of the screen.

Another addition is that the Facebook-owned company will be introducing a 'protection' feature to avoid spamming and people getting repeatedly added to groups after they have left.
