Twitter Trolls Drive Ruby Rose Off Twitter Following Batwoman Casting

Yet another actor is forced to leave the social networking site due to abuse from Twitter trolls. Ruby Rose removed her account on Sunday following backlash from Arrowverse fans after it was revealed that she would be joining the CW team. Rose will be joining the team and will first be appearing as Batwoman during December's DC crossover event between shows.

Although it has now been taken down, the Australian actor's final tweets were in response to the wave of abuse that she received about her playing a lesbian superhero. Kate Kane (aka Batwoman) is a lesbian in the comic book and even though Rose herself is a proud member of the LQBTQ community she has still been attacked for not being "gay enough" to play the role. She reportedly posted before pulling her page down "Where on earth did 'Ruby is not a lesbian, therefore, she can't be Batwoman' come from -- has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I've ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with 'she's too gay' how do y'all flip it like that? I didn't change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys." Following the #recastbatwoman campaign that appeared on social media shortly after, Rose commented "When women and when minorities join forces we are unstoppable…when we tear each other down it's much more hurtful than from any group… I just with women and the LGBT community supported each other more, My wish was we were all a little kinder and more supportive of each other…"

She ended her monologue by stating that she will be taking a break from Twitter for a while. "If you need me," she wrote, "I'll be on my Bat Phone".

Unfortunately, Rose is yet another celebrity in a long line of female celebrities to bow out gracefully from social networking sites as a result of intense trolling. This backlash tends to follow actresses landing roles with large fan bases such as Star Wars actress, Kelly Marie Tran who left Instagram last June. She received numerous harassing comments to her Instagram account after landing her role as Rose.

This scandal comes at a time when Twitter is under scrutiny following its failure to ban Alex Jones and his right-wing opinions despite the fact that he's been banned from numerous social networking sites for spreading dangerous conspiracies.
