Lil' Wayne is hinting at the release date of his forthcoming album Tha Carter V. The rapper originally began talking about the album in 2012, saying that it would be his final album. The plan was for it to be released in 2014, however he has been embroiled in legal battles with labels Cash Money Records and Universal Music Group for several years now, delaying the album release.
In December 2014, Weezy issued a statement that Cash Money Records label-boss Birdman did not want to release Tha Carter V despite it being completed, saying that he felt that he was being held "prisoner." He sued Cash Money owners Birdman and Ronald "Slim" Williams, Universal Music Group, and UMG Recordings for not paying him his $8 million advance or $2 million completion fee. Last month, on June 7, it was reported that a settlement was reached and that Lil' Wayne is no longer signed with Cash Money Records.
Lil' Wayne announced at a show in Miami, "Just to let y'all know, I had a meeting today – it wasn't a long meeting – but just so you know the meeting was about the release date of Tha Carter fucking V." While not much is known about the album yet, fans are anticipating its release later this year.
