Active recruitment also targets candidates who may not be actively seeking out a job but might be interested once the opportunity shows up.

1. Recruitment via company website
As mentioned earlier, this is a form of passive recruitment. The process simply involves posting a job listing on the organization’s own site and fielding applications that are sent in response to the listing. This particular recruitment strategy is often practiced by large organizations that already attract a large volume of applicants.

There is very little done in terms of “promoting” opportunities since such organizations are already perceived as ideal employers. However, they still might choose to offer information about the work culture practiced within, while discussing other aspects of being an employee there.

For example, Southwest Airlines, which received over 300,000 applications in 2016 alone, has a Careers section on its website that discusses benefits, tips, and internship opportunities.

So, the first step in your job hunting process should be to check the company website for listings and apply accordingly.

2. Recruitment via social media platforms
Social Recruitment involves the use of social media sites to look for candidates. Most organizations now have accounts on various social media sites that present information about the company. These pages are also used to post vacancy listings, which people can respond to.

Some organizations even offer details on their work culture, processes, and various other aspects. So, following a prospective employer’s social media page is a smart move that can get you closer to your next job.

According to a survey conducted by SHRM, LinkedIn is the most effective social media platform for recruitment. It is known to have a success rate of 73%, while Facebook comes close with a success rate of 66%.

3. Job search engines
Job search engines are basically websites that allow you to search for job listings. They function just like your regular search engine, crawling the Internet in search of job listings that meet your requirements. The greatest advantage with job search engines is that the results are extremely varied. You are likely to receive results from a wide range of sources.

Though job search engines work independently, they are often leveraged by employers as well. For example, it is possible for employers to use a particular job search engine’s proprietary advertising solution to “advertise” their listing.

4. The walk-ins
This is a traditional recruitment strategy that involves considering candidates who actually “walk-in” to the organization or business to inquire about job vacancies. This is still mostly practiced by small businesses. However, some big corporations also entertain this method.
