Best Lawn Mowers Reviewed:
Everything looks better when the sun shines and as the warm weather approaches, it's nice to make the most of your outside space. Prepping for the Summer season involves taking care of your lawn and if you invest in the right lawn mower, it will keep your garden looking pristine time and time again. Of course, there are different types of lawn mowers on the market, each with their unique advantages and disadvantages. Thankfully, we've done the hard work for you! We've whittled down a long list of lawn mowers in order to help you distinguish the gas from the electric and the push from the self-propelled.
Best Gas Mower: Honda HRX Mower
According our test results, the Honda HRX lawn mower is the best gas mower on the market. Our reviewers loved this mower's combination of durability and useful features which include leaf shredding, giving you a nice break from raking. It's also super home friendly as you have the choice of side-discharging, mulching the grass or bagging it. Honda uses exclusive technology in their mowers that allows the user to control how much grass to mulch and how much to bag. It's great for those with a busy schedule as it means that you won't need to spend ages bagging all the cut grass and it's great for house-proud moms too! Honda are renowned for their strong engines and the 190cc engine didn't disappoint us. What's more, the rear wheel drive makes it easy to tackle uphill mowing and taller grass. In terms of price, it's at the higher end of the scale however if you have the money to spend it's worth every dime. With high end price tags come high end features. Our reviewers loved the turn key electric start and the 7 settings so that your grass will always be finely cut. To make you feel even better about spending the money, Honda offer a lifetime warranty on the rust and dent-free mowing deck which is also something that our reviewers loved. It gave them confidence that this product really does deliver, even after numerous uses. Unfortunately, our older reviewers complained that it was slightly bulky and heavy to move in and out of the garden shed so we would recommend those looking for a lighter model to look elsewhere. Despite this, the Honda MRX Mower was still our most highly rated lawn mower. It’s not only good for taking care of small gardens but medium and large gardens too!
Best Self-Propelled Mower: Troy-Bilt TB370 Selp-Propelled Lawn Mower
Self-propelled mowers are best for those that want to achieve a gorgeous lawn without the heavy-duty strain. The Troy-Bilt TB370 Self-Propelled Lawn Mower is great because not only does it have great self-propulsion but good 3-in-1 capability to side-discharge, mulch or rear-bag. Other mowers that we tested in a similar price range to the Troy-Bilt model only give users the choice of fully bagging or fully mulching the cuttings and testers loved that with this mower they were able to choose exactly how to dispose of the cuttings. Unfortunately, this product has the lowest warranty out of all the products we tested at 2 years. Nevertheless, we have faith in this mower's durability and after testing, believe that the 163cc Briggs & Stratton engine with its ReadyStart technology will perform well time at time again. It runs on oil (which is included) and gasoline and doesn’t take long to set up. Fans of gas mowers didn't have a problem with filling the machine with gasoline however those that are used to using electric mowers found it fiddly and slightly inconvenient. This machine scored highly mainly because testers raved at the results they got at such little effort. This could be down to the 21-inch TriAction cutting system which delivers a clean cut after just one pass. It works edge to edge so there is no reason to spend more time than necessary mowing your lawn. It also allows you to maneuver easily around objects that act as obstacles whilst mowing. One reviewer even reported that his back yard is on rather hilly terrain and was impressed with how with the Troy-Bilt TB370 coped with it. We loved how effortless this machine felt to use. Instead of feeling the need to mow at the pace that your machine sets, you are able to mow at your own speed.
Best Budget Mower: Greenworks 20-Inch 12 Amp Corded Lawn Mower 25022
At just under $130 this mower is substantially cheaper than a lot of its competitors. This usually means that you sacrifice on performance however not with the Greenworks 25022. It's super durable, has a 20-inch cable, weighs 56 lbs and has foldable handles so it's easy to store away when it's not in use. There is also a four-year warranty! The 20-inch deck is made of thin steel so our testers found it easy to reach edges, flower beds or any other obstructions to obtain a clean-cut finish. Testers with smaller yards thoroughly enjoyed using this mower. The Greenworks 25022 was a really refreshing choice for testers that are sick of changing gasoline and the smell that can emit from gas mowers. What's more, it's really quiet too. Unfortunately, some complained that it was difficult to work out how to maneuver the cord and didn’t like that they needed to adjust it numerous times in order to mow comfortably. However, testers also claimed that once they got used to mowing with a cord, the machine itself is easy to maneuver. It has a 20-inch blade that efficiently cuts through grass of a thin-medium thickness and a 12-amp motor that requires an outdoor extension cord. Unfortunately, quality of the grass after mowing was better with more advanced mowers however we loved that with this machine, you have the option to bag, discharge or mulch your cut grass. However, if you want to discharge your cuttings you will need to separately purchase the side discharge bag and the rear bag. They are expensive but it's worth is at they are both high quality products.
As you can see, buying a lawn mower is an investment but it doesn't need to be a complicated one. At the end of the day, the best investment is purchasing the right product to suit your specific needs. Gas mowers are the most powerful however they can also be loud and sometimes emit bad smelling fumes. If your lawn is smaller with less thick grass then an electric mower may be the right one for you. You also have the option of a self-propelled mover that puts in all the elbow grease for you how they are usually more expensive. A push mower is best for those on a budget however it's much harder work so if you live in a warmer climate you may want to think again. All things aside, we chose the Honda HRX mower as our favorite product. The majority of our testers gave it sky high ratings for durability and toughness, its engine power and the fact that they could keep the engine running whilst stopping blade rotation. The fact that the grass bag is included is a nice touch too!
