Best Skin Products for Aging Skin

Before beauty experts began discussing the notion of anti-ageing it was all about anti-wrinkle.  The truth is that there is no difference in the products themselves.  The switch in phraseology aims to encourage young women to incorporate products into their beauty regime before the first signs of aging begin to appear.  We are blessed in existing in an age where experts are able to create formulas that prevent skin looking older, duller and more lined.  The beauty market seems to be ever expanding and the abundance of anti-aging products can be overwhelming with a new product popping up every second.  We have decided to aid you in your quest to fight aging and make your skin appear plumper, line free and vitalized.  It is important however not to blindly jump into the ocean of products available to you.   Unlike regular lotions and face creams, anti-aging products can be harsh on the skin if not used correctly.  Our skin is naturally sensitive to ingredients like retinol and AHA which are found in a lot of anti-wrinkle creams and most anti-aging products don’t contain SPF so it's important to carefully read directions before buying and applying.

Best Luxary Brand Product: RoC’s Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream

Just a pea sized amount of this product gives the skin a luxurious moisturizing feel and evens skin tone which is why the product was rated highly by testers.  The texture when it comes out of the tube is similar to petroleum jelly however it's also sticky and is absorbed almost instantaneously.  Unlike other products at a more budget price ($15.35 for 1oz) the cream doesn’t come in a jar but in a tube that protects the product from being damaged by light and oxygen.   The only downsides we found were the scent and the lack of SPF.   Being a night screan the SPF didn’t bother us too much however some testers found the smell too overbearing to wear at night.  Like more expensive products in the market the cream contains retinoids and AHAs and performs just as well as pricier counterparts.

Best Drugstore Product: Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream Face Moisturizer

Olay Regenerist Micro- Sculpting Cream Face Moisturizer also has an impressive stream of ingredients including hyaluronic acid, amino-peptide complex II and vitamin B.  This formula is a fast action formula that promises instant results.  It claims to correct deep wrinkles and improve the skins texture and elasticity and although we didn’t see results after the first application our skin felt suppler in a shorter space of time than with other products.  At $23.49 this product is incredibly affordable and the rich texture and subtle smell give it the feel of a much higher end product.  Our testers agreed that the only two downsides to the product were that there is no SPF and that the product comes in a jar as opposed to a tube so we would recommend to keep it refrigerated to avoid damaging ingredients in the heat.

Best Splurge: Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum, All Skin Types

Clinique is a brand that ranks top time and time again with beauty experts.  It’s one of the more affordable high-end brands and as soon as we applied it we remembered why.  The silky texture made our skin feel smooth enough to skip a primer and even gave us a subtle, healthy glow.  The antiaging ingredients and antioxidants claim to reduce inflammation and prompt collagen production.  This product not only repair the skins natural barrier but also reduces damage caused by the sun.  We are usually dubious about using products for all skin types but all our testers agreed this product was worth splurging on.  The product is fragrance free which is great for sensitive drier skin however the grapefruit peel can could be problematic as it attracts the sun so be sure to add SPF product if using in the day.

Best Product to Suit Your Skin Type: The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Previously Advanced Retinoid 2%)

This is one of six products from The Ordinary's range and we chose to review the Retinoid 2% Emulsion as it falls in the middle in terms of strength and skin type it treats.  As mentioned previously, anti-aging products differ to regular moisturizers due to stronger ingredients which is especially notable with The Ordinary range.  As the product contains two types of retinoids it may be a bit harsher on the skin than other products and therefore, we advise application once or twice a week.  It's common for retinoids to cause slight uncomfortableness in the beginning as the skin needs a period of adjustment.  We did see improvement in the appearance of fine lines and sun damage however if the product irritates your skin it would be best to seek a weaker serum.  On the whole, this product absorbed quickly leaving skin feeling moisturized and younger.  Not only are all products silicone- free, alcohol-free and cruelty-free but at $16.09 for 1oz it doesn’t break the bank.

Our Pay Day Treat: Estee lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II

This is the most expensive product we tried and we were eager to find out if you really do get what you pay for in the world of anti-ageing skin care.  This fragrance free thick gel-serum not only looks luxurious and spoiling but the consistency is dreamy and soaks in quickly.  However, we were disappointed with the tacky finish as opposed to the silky smoothness you would expect from the brand (and the price!).  Experts at Estee Lauder claim that the formula fights environmental stressors and leaves the user waking up with plumper and more hydrated skin.  Wrinkles were much less visible after use and skin was definitely plumper probably sure to the hyaluronic acid.  It’s a great If money isn’t an option and you want to treat yourself we have no doubt that your skin will thank you.  product but for the price we feel we can get better value for our money elsewhere.

Best Bargain: L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Intensive Anti-Aging Day Cream Moisturizer

Loreal Revitalift is a high street brand whose anti-ageing moisturizer is a product aimed at 35-55-year-old women promising instant blurring of wrinkles and long term anti-aging action.  At just $16.99 for 1.7oz we were impressed with the product's ingredient list.  The methyl methacrylate crosspolymer acts as a lubricant that smooths over and fills out uneven skin and fine wrinkles.  Unlike other anti-aging products testers had no problem to apply makeup onto the lotion with claims that the cream gives the skin the same feel that a primer does.  Although the product smooths, it doesn’t hydrate as much as we would have liked so it's better for normal to oily skin.  We did find our skin looked plumper after using this product however a few testers claimed that the cream 'photoshops' your skin rather than providing long term results.   We would definitely recommend this product to those on a budget.

Bottom Line

What can we say?  All the anti-aging products we tested helped to restore our faith in miracles.  As we get older we need deeper and more nourishing products to protect us from the signs of aging and we were pleasantly surprised to discover the range of facial oils, serums, moisturizers and treatments there are available to us. The difference between regular lotions and anti-aging products is the fact that you may not see immediate results unlike with regular face creams.  The right products are packed with high quality ingredients that will keep you looking younger for longer which is why they are pricier.  We tested anti-aging products based on quality, results, ingredients, value for money, scent and more.  Although all the products we tested were very high quality, Clinique and Roc were the brands that stole joint first place. There is no shame in wanting to appear younger and as we've shown, it's easier to give yourself a radiant glow making you look and feel great.  Remember, aid your collagen cells- don’t be their enemy.
